Sol Symphony

Digital Painters

Gaia Lao’s aim is to advance the static and fixed idea of a painting.

Sol Symphony is a live painting performance which the viewer can immerse themselves in. We use the Tagtool, an instrument created by OMAI that combines live drawing, animation and light projection. Whether confined to the space of a room, a stage or a larger public space, this new technology enables visual creation on a huge scale with the aid of a projector.

This new approach to pictorial creation allows us as painters to expand the painting surface onto any texture and bring visuals into any environment.

The goal of the Sol Symphony is to create an interactive environment in a social setting through this new means of expression. We have realised how working with light and motion can open up perceptions of any given place.

Gaia Lao is a duo of painters using the Tagtool and applying abstract painting concepts to this new technology. They collaborate together to develop the potential of this new tool and have taken part in various projects around Barcelona. Their debut was held at The New Media Biennale at Mutuo Art Centre in November, 2013. They have created light installations for live music, dance and also trapeze performances.
