On November 7th Mosaïque invites you back to Brick-5 for a program inspired by the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos! A tradition which reunites and honors beloved ancestors, family and friends who have passed away, this is a time to both reconnect with the dearly departed and joyfully celebrate their lives.
Our program this month looks at death through a wide range of music and a healthy dose of booze! Works by Brahms, Bolcom and Saint-Saëns meet traditional Mexican folksongs with performances by mezzo-sopranos Kate Lerner and Celia Sotomayor, violinist Anaïs Tamisier and pianist Deirdre Brenner, plus a few more surprises.
In the spirit of community, we will build a traditional ofrenda, or altar, on the stage for the evening. Guests to the concert (this means YOU!) are invited to bring framed photographs of deceased loved ones, as well as offerings of their favorite foods, to add to the display. This will enable us to remember their lives together!
And what would any great party be without the appropriate refreshments? The new restaurant in the Turnhalle at Brick-5 will prepare their own fresh take on Mexican cuisine and the award-winning Padre azul will offer free tequila tasting all night long! All other desired beverages can be found at the bar. 😉
